PASTOR’S REPORT

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2011

The liturgical season of Epiphany is coming to a close. We will soon enter the season of Lent, one of the most sacred and solemn seasons of the liturgical year. In Lent we reflect on the price that Jesus paid to secure salvation for all humanity. We reflect on the agony and pain that Jesus had to endure to make us right with God again. In Lent we step up the pace of our worship activities to reflect the passion of the season in word, music, fellowship and worship. Lent leads us to Easter and Easter gives reason to the difficulties and challenges of the Christian life. As a Christian congregation we are called to proclaim the Easter good news in all that we do. As a Christian congregation of the faithful we are called to make the reality of Jesus pertinent to the lives we come to touch. That reality manifest itself in a strong church. It is a church that’s not afraid to take risk, a church that is not afraid to address the contemporary issues of the times, a church that will boldly proclaim Christian values as society attempts to redefine the values of contemporary society. Easter gives the church the freedom to proclaim the hope that is revealed in scripture through Jesus Christ. Lent encourages the church to persist in the challenge and struggle to uphold Christian values amid the changing values of our time.

Our role as leaders in the church is to make certain that the values contained in scripture are handed down and taught with clarity. The church’s role in the world is to be a beacon of light and truth to guide those seeking the salvation contained in its message. We have been placed here to make a difference in the lives of those we come into contact. It is an awesome thought to know that God has placed us in leadership roles in the church to accomplish his will in the world.

Unity of purpose understands that it is not my gift alone but all of our gifts together that makes us one, enabling the church to fulfill it obligation to God and to each other. Epiphany brings something new, Lent recalls the past and the church brings them together that we may grow in God’s Spirit.
