THEOLOGICAL/POLITICAL REFLECTIONS

God’s finger has touched the hem of human affairs. The United States constitution reaffirms the creation narrative of scripture when it says that all men are created equal. Scripture says “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them.” The apostle Paul further enlightened us with these words: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” If only these truths would be understood with reference to the affairs of the worldwide human community.

In our country’s new political leadership God has spoken. The human community has felt the touch of God’s finger and has awakened to the force and power of that touch. Our country and our world are faced with daunting issues in this the 21st century of human community. These issues: economy, ethnicity, terrorism, wars and disease all have the capacity to further deteriorate relations in the global and local geographic communities around the world. The election of this country’s first African-American president has less to do with ethnicity and more the effect and experience of one that has been exposed to the dichotomy of the two worlds of privilege and struggle. God has seen fit to touch the human condition with one that has experienced the effects of this dichotomy in the person of Barack Obama. Forty years after the spirit-led ministry of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., God choose to make His presence known in the human condition of the world. The world has felt the effect and very presence of God through the once little known presence of President Obama, the one God sent to lead our nation to address the conditions in the turbulent times of a 21st century world.

The faithful and beloved multicultural community of New Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church will minister in the spirit of God to accomplish the will of God in these troubled times. We seek to address; as best we can with the meager resources available to us, the conditions of a troubled community and world. We continue to ask the blessing of God to sustain and strengthen our Christian ministry together.

God's finger has touch the hem of human affairs and we hope to work hand in hand with the new leadership of our country to accomplish the God filled ideals of the beloved community that the world has longed to see manifested.
